Doll's poppy

The 11th November is Remembrance Day, when we remember soldiers who have died in war. This year is especially poignant, being the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War.

I thought I'd show you how to make these simple poppies for your dolls, so that they too can commemorate Remembrance Day.
You'll need a pin with a black plastic head, sandpaper, coloured card, and glue.

1. Rub two sides of the pin with the sandpaper, so that the head becomes a flattened disc shape.
2. Cut a poppy shape from red card, and a leaf shape if required.
3. Use an embossing tool to impress lines in the petals.
4. Push the pin through the card, and add a little glue behind the pin head.

I only found out a few years ago that the poppies sold in Scotland are different from those in the rest of the UK - the Scottish ones have four petals and no leaf, and the others have two petals and a leaf (I used to think that those were special posh ones for newsreaders!).

You could also make a white peace poppy, or a purple one to honour animal victims of war.

Remember, if you are making a poppy, to make a donation to Poppy ScotlandThe Royal British Legion, or a similar charity in your part of the world.
