I made this Japanese woman paper sculpture inspired by a photo in this old book, Paper Sculpture by Arthur Sadler. I can't find a date on the book, but it looks like it dates from the 1950s or 60s. The book has some amazing photos in it of large-scale paper sculpture displays, used as shop window displays.
Although there are some general instructions for making figures, there were no specific instructions for the Japanese woman, so I just experimented. I think it would be a lot of fun to try something like this at a larger scale, so I'll have to get some bigger paper if I want to try that!
