There were a couple of things that struck me about the Piazza dei Miracoli in Pisa, both of which are demonstrated by the photo above! The first thing that hit me was that the leaning tower is not isolated, but is accompanied by other beautiful and interesting buildings including the Duomo and Baptistery. I was pleased by this, as there's only so much time you can spend looking at one tower. The other thing I found was a photography issue - it's downright impossible to take a photo of the leaning tower that captures its true tilt, especially when using a wide angle lens to take in the rest of the scene!
We travelled on this cute little train!
One thing I wondered is whether Pisa's tower would still be a tourist attraction if it didn't lean. I decided its circular shape was interesting anyway, and people would still have wanted to see it even if it didn't have the added attraction of leaning.
The Duomo had a lot of scaffolding on it, but I was fascinated to watch this conservator at work, taking photographs and colour matching swatches of marble.
Oh wow, your photos are amazing! I'd love to visit Italy one day and see Pisa and the Coliseum. I've never seen such close up detailed pictures of Pisa but it's so remarkable how they've managed to keep it standing! Thanks for sharing with us!
